Nancy Mithlo, a professor of Art History and American Indian Studies at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, approached us to help promote an exhibition of contemporary Native American artists she was curating in association with the 2009 Venice Biennale. The two artists, Tom Jones and Andrea Carlson, have wildly different styles. But we found that they each were exploring similar themes — the reappropriation and cannibalism of Native American culture. Our design explores these themes, too, as a way to invite an international audience to see their art.
