Optimism is often seen as child’s play. Naïve. Weak-tea thinking in the no-nonsense land of dollars and cents. We disagree.

If history is any guide, downturns in the market lead marketing managers to take safe bets. There is a tendency to tone down marketing initiatives, choose more common marketing channels, and make the creative feel safer.

So what’s a mechanical engineer and an MBA doing jetting around (though mostly seen walking around downtown Madison or in his trusted Jetta) in the world of design, music and art? Three reasons: because it is fun, these are things that I am passionate about, and they make people happy. I strive to incorporate these three tenets in all facets of my life — be it at work, in the kitchen/at home, behind the decks spinning, or clicking away with my camera.

It’s been a long and circuitous route getting here. Having grown up in Delhi, India (not to be confused with Delhi, Iowa which is much closer and in the same time zone), I was surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells that make up India. My mother’s artistic sensibilities, father’s ear for good music and grandma’s cooking made an indelible impact early on, and unknowingly set the stage for me to venture along this path long before I knew it. Finishing up with college in Bangalore was followed by a brief stint as a mechanical engineer, then a software engineer before heading to grad school for an MBA in Entrepreneurship from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The past decade has been spent learning new skills, building networks, while growing and nurturing businesses in areas as diverse as music, publishing, educational software, and technology services.

Great ideas abound, but it is the passion, the execution and attention to details that matter the most. So let’s make this world a better place with beautiful music, art and design!

  • 11.08.10 | My Brother's Big Fat Indian Wedding... or a fun time was had by all
  • Two weeks of laughter, dancing and celebrations in and around Delhi, India... and now a jet lag that refuses to go away.
  • 10.16.10 | It's a 24 hour party in Vegas
  • Vegas was a fun time meeting up with my soon-to-be-married brother and his friends, some of whom I had not seen for over a decade. It was pretty much a 48 hour weekend party, a precursor to the week-long wedding celebrations about to begin in India. About the picture: Much of Las Vegas is bright lights and plastic, including this imitation roulette wheel jutting out from one of the zillion slot machines on the MGM Casino floor.
