Optimism is often seen as child’s play. Naïve. Weak-tea thinking in the no-nonsense land of dollars and cents. We disagree.

If history is any guide, downturns in the market lead marketing managers to take safe bets. There is a tendency to tone down marketing initiatives, choose more common marketing channels, and make the creative feel safer.

My dad’s a movie buff. Growing up, I spent a lot of time watching movies with him. I was, to a certain extent, raised on The Terminator and the Alien trilogy. We would toss a baseball here and there but a majority of our bonding took place over Sega Genesis and Hitchcock movies.

A casual interest in movies bloomed into full-blown cinephilia by high school. I was particularly interested in title sequences and listed Saul Bass and Kyle Cooper as heroes. I can still remember the first time I saw the opening titles for Se7en.

A couple of years later, I found myself in the film program at the University of Wisconsin here in Madison. It was there that I learned the foundation of any good title sequence is in design. I walked out four years later with a degree and plenty of story left to write.

My first stop was here at the inimitable Swink, Inc. So far, I've learned that your education doesn't end after school. Each day here presents new challenges and there's no better way to tackle them than by being surrounded by talented, good-hearted people.

When I'm not pushing pixels around you can find me re-watching Arrested Development, at a hockey game, or taking a nap.
