To say I’ve always been an artist at heart would be dishonest. I always was surrounded by artistic influences, but I never truly discovered my passion for design until I [briefly] considered studying politics in college. After deciding to attend the University of Minnesota instead of the University of Wisconsin, a career in design just made sense.
I’d love to look back on my life and tell you about a slew of pinnacle, life-defining moments, but I’ve got a lot of life to live. Gun to my head, I’d have to say the time I found out that the characters on Sesame Street were merely puppets was pretty eye-opening. Also, some guy once told me I wasn’t funny, but I’m pretty sure he was joking. He also wasn’t funny.
As far as design goes, I see it not just as an avenue on which to solve problems both physically and virtually, but rather as a living (and sometimes dying), organism. I’m interested not just in an overall design, but in its every beautiful element. From the copy to the colors, the size to the shapes, it’s a process that is never less interesting 24 hours later.
In short, I love design. However, I’m also fascinated with the JFK assassination, I have an affinity for the years 1700–1900 (which most likely stems from my mom’s unwavering love for John Wayne), I eat copious amounts of M&Ms, and nothing makes me happier than making people laugh (which, admittedly, requires a great deal of effort on my part).
On that note, if you laugh easily, feel free to send me an email. I’d love to hang out sometime.
